Latinos Commend Senator Feinstein for Vote Against Estrada
(Los Angeles, CA)Thanking Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) for her vote against confirmation of Miguel Estrada for Washington, DC Federal Circuit Court, the William C. Velasquez Institute (WCVI), called for the Senate to reject Estrada.
Responding to those want a Latino appointment to the Federal Circuit Court without regard to their beliefs, WCVI President Antonio Gonzalez said "We commend Senator Feinstein for her vote. Our community does not just want brown faces in high places. We want Latino appointees who reflect our core values and principles and have the best of qualifications. Clearly Mr. Estrada does not meet that standard. If approved, he would join the growing drift of justices away from letter and spirit of civil rights, and fairness more generally. This movement cannot be supported by Latino leaders."
